How can I keep my dog from climbing our chain link fence?

Our weim keeps climing over our 5′ chainlink fence and I’m open to any suggestions that don’t involve me using a live wire.

  1. The Recluse says:

You could try putting mesh or some sort of outdoor material on the side that your dog climbs. It might not look too pretty though…

  2. Jeanie says:

put a board all around the top edges of the fence so if he climbs it he’ll fall back instead of being able to go over it,we had to do this for my brother’s blue heelers

  3. Pit Bull Hugger! says:

Put a sloped piece at the top of your fence..that is what we did to correct out dogs. _> like this /

    okay, barbed wire

  5. Jane Marple says:

You could train him first. Second you could plan a bush that grows fast and will get as high as your fence. After all you’ve got your dog for 14 years at least and bushes are nicer then fences.

  6. PitBullLova says:

Correct him when you see or catch him doing this and discipline him. Or build a wooden fence.

  7. Greek God says:

A cinder block tied to a rope about 12 feet long and attached to the dog’s collar. He may be able to get up and down the other side of the fence, but, that will be the end of his trip.
When you find him like that, throw him over the fence and let him try it again. A 9 Volt battery will be easier however and much less of a hustle for everyone involved. The dog will only touch it once and that will be the end!
An Electric collar and a lot of patience on your part to catch him in the act and correct him with a high level stim would also work.
    Hope I helped!
