How can I get my dog to stop jumping the fence?

The dog is a one year old boykin spaniel. He is a great dog,,very playful but I’m afraid he will get by a car because he has no street smarts. He is on chain now 🙁 and I hate to keep him on it..PLEASE HELP!!
Thanks guys some good suggestions. I would love to have him as an inside dog even though hes hyper. And with the taller fence unfortunaly the backyard is almost an acre with a 4 foot fence, can’t afford to make it taller 🙁

Bring him into the house. Supervise him when he is outside in the yard.

You can also build a taller fence, exercise your dog more so he isn’t trying to escape out of boredom, neuter him (if he isn’t already) so that he’s not trying to escape to find females.

Keeping him inside would solve the problem…

    Get an electric fence.

Build a taller fence, or add a height extension to the fence you already have.

Why is he living outside in the yard? – dogs should live in the house with their families. If he’s in the house with you he won’t be jumping the fence.

My dog used to jump the fence too. The way I got her to stop was by putting chicken wire on the top of the fence and the bottom of the fence. This way when she tried to climb up the fence she couldn’t because the holes in the chicken wire were too small for her to put her paws through.
    I hope this helps!
