Does the Citronella collar work when you have multiple dogs?

We have heard that the Citronella collar can’t distinguish which dog barked. We have 2: a German Shepherd and a Catahoula (both take turns being the instigator). We were told that the collar will spray even if it was the other dog that barked.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Our other issue is we don’t want our dogs to stop barking all-together. I have dogs partly as property guards! Oh, AND we live on a green belt with the sidewalk right next to our fence. My dogs bark for good reason.

Any ideas would be appreciated!

No, the collar doesn’t work like that. It works on vocal chord vibrations within the walls of the throat to know who barked. I have five dogs (currently) and only one of them needed a collar to stop obsessive barking, and it never sprayed randomly when another of them would bark.

I have used citronella collars with very good luck. The device works off the individual dogs vocal cords. Yes it can go off if the collar vibrates because another dog is that close to other and sets it off. I never had the problem.
It does work all the time though, so if you want your dogs to bark sometimes and not others they will not work for that instance.
Behavior modification would be a better solution, but will take a concerted effort on your part.
    Good luck.
